Internews
VP
Washington DC
I am currently Internews’ Vice President for Global Initiatives based in Washington, DC, overseeing our environmental, health, humanitarian and US programs. My background is in journalism and humanitarian relief. I specialize in the design and troubleshooting of information projects in humanitarian, conflict, post conflict, peacebuilding and other transitional environments. I manage Internews Rapid Response Humanitarian Projects, most recently in Haiti, Greece, Nepal and Liberia (Ebola).
I have worked in various capacities for Internews since 1998: I established the Internews program at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, providing a foundation for the work that Internews still does in Rwanda. I founded the Internews Burma project in 2001, set up Internews first J-school (for exiled Burmese journalists in Thailand) and transitioned the project to Yangon Myanmar in 2013. As Regional Manager for Africa Programs I oversaw projects in Kenya, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Uganda and South Sudan between 2005 and 2008. Before joining Internews, I worked in radio, print and television newsrooms in South Africa and in the UK before spending four years as a press officer for CARE, managing press relations and policy in humanitarian emergencies including Rwanda, Burundi, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan and Bosnia.
