This session will provide hands-on training with data journalism tools. Learn how to scrape data from websites and PDFs using tools like Tabula and Table Capture. Post that, you will be shown how to visualise the the information and translate that into charts and graphs using online tools like Datawrapper or Infogram.

Note: Data Labs have 30 seats with computers. These workshops may reach capacity quickly, so we recommend you arrive early.

Sanjit Oberai is working as a freelance data editor / trainer where he conducts training sessions for journalists on how to use data effectively in newsrooms. He has worked with many digital start ups like thequint, IndiaSpend, Firstpost.com, and Moneycontrol.com. He has been actively involved in the data space in India and has also conducted a few sessions on data journalism across Asia. He was one of the speakers at a data journalism session conducted by Health Analytics at Srinagar, Kashmir where he spoke about various tools doctors / journalists can use to extract, clean and visualise data. He also conducted a data training session for CNN-IBN on tools news organizations can implement in their news room. He recently wrote a chapter titled " Baby steps: a slow start but data journalism in India is gathering pace" for a Data Journalism book titled "Data Journalism: Inside the global future" which was recently published in London.
