Using Document Cloud

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Harness the power of DocumentCloud: Learn how to use this cloud-based service to organize and mine documents for a story. Extensive analysis tools enable you to upload a batch of documents and then produce a timeline with key dates, as well as an interactive list of key people and institutions mentioned in the documents.

Uncover patterns and connections that you might have missed with paper documents alone. Highlight key passages in documents, write short explainer notes and embed the documents online as part of your investigation. The service allows you to keep your documents private and share publicly only those that you decide to publish.

In addition, you can search DocumentCloud for all sorts of materials that other journalists have made public, including court filings, hearing transcripts, testimony, legislation, reports, memos, meeting minutes and correspondence. Major investigations, including the Panama Papers, have used DocumentCloud. The open-source service also fosters easy collaboration among teams -- both inside one organization as well as among several partners.

Note: Data Labs have 38 seats with computers. These workshops may reach capacity quickly, so we recommend you arrive early.
