Sanjit Oberai is working as a freelance data editor / trainer where he conducts training sessions for journalists on how to use data effectively in newsrooms. He has worked with many digital start ups like thequint, IndiaSpend, Firstpost.com, and Moneycontrol.com. He has been actively involved in the data space in India and has also conducted a few sessions on data journalism across Asia. He was one of the speakers at a data journalism session conducted by Health Analytics at Srinagar, Kashmir where he spoke about various tools doctors / journalists can use to extract, clean and visualise data. He also conducted a data training session for CNN-IBN on tools news organizations can implement in their news room. He recently wrote a chapter titled " Baby steps: a slow start but data journalism in India is gathering pace" for a Data Journalism book titled "Data Journalism: Inside the global future" which was recently published in London. He was also one of the of the 50+ contributors to the e-book ‘Data+Design’ which was published by Infoactive. Apart from that, he was also one of the Ambassadors of the data visualisation tool Infogram in India with an objective to increase global data literacy through outreach, education and events. In addition, he is also one of the co-founders of the Mumbai Data Meet Chapter which looks at fostering like minded people in the data space.He also worked as deputy editor and product head of IndiaSpend, India’s first data journalism initiative.
