John Grobler is a veteran investigative reporter, based in Windhoek, Namibia from where he keeps an eye on the political nexus between natural resource exploitation and organised crime in his own country as well as neighbouring Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo, although his work has also taken him to West and East Africa in the past. His most recent investigations have covered the importing of Bulgarian arsenic toxic waste into Namibia, the secretive forces behind the reconstruction of the Caminho de Ferro de Benguela railway line in Angola and an ongoing investigation of organised crime in the poaching of Namibia’s critically endangered, desert-adapted black rhino. He works closely with the University of Witwatersrand’s Journalism School and has received  several grants from them to investigate the role of Chinese business in Africa, and is currently the holder of a EU Journalism grant to investigate party-political funding in Namibia.
