Milagros Salazar is the founder and director of Convoca, a nonprofit investigative and data journalism center founded in Lima, Peru, in 2016. She specializes in database analysis and is a member of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ). She has investigated irregularities in Peru's huge fishing industry, based on an analysis of more than 200,000 files, and the links between corporate power and the Peruvian political power elite. In 2016 the Convoca team, under her leadership, won the Data Journalism Awards in the News Applications category for the investigative series “Excesses without punishment.” In 2017, her team was a finalist for the Gabriel García Márquez Ibero-American Award in the Innovation (2016) and Best Journalistic Coverage (2017) categories.
